LOW BINDING POLYMER TECHNOLOGY

IMPROVE ACCURACY AND PRECISION WITH BONDED POLYMER TECHNOLOGY

A calibrated pipettor may be 99% accurate and precise, but tips can compromise such accuracy and precision by binding sample. Low binding tips improve accuracy and precision by utilizing Bonded Polymer Technology to bond a proprietary polymer to the tip resin. This advanced process creates a hydrophobic surface that reduces the surface tension of the interior wall of the pipette tip, resulting in minimal sample binding. No additives such as silicone are used; consequently no leaching and subsequent sample degradation occur. The chemically resistant polymer cannot be removed with common laboratory solvents such as chloroform or chloroethene. All products are certified RNase/DNase-free, non-pyrogenic, and Human DNA/PCR Inhibitor-Free.

APPLICATIONS
  • Pipetting long, sticky molecules such as DNA, proteins, or peptides, which tend to bind to the walls of pipette tips.
  • Quantitative assays in which sample binding can significantly alter results.
  • Critical, small volume protocols that require a high degree of accuracy. At these ultramicro volumes, minute amounts of bound sample represent a large percentage of the total sample volume.
  • Replace siliconized tips. Silicone will leach into samples and has the potential to degrade DNA. Siliconized tips also are less effective after autoclaving.
  • Pipetting expensive reagents. Minimize the amount of liquid discarded with your pipette tip.
DNA Binding:
The relative binding of DNA by several manufacturers’ pipette tips (three conventional
tips and three low retention tips) was measured by slowly pipetting 100µl of ABI Big Dye® Terminator Ready Reaction Mix (Applied Biosystems).

Tips were subsequently washed in 625µl of ddH2O in a spectrophotometer sample tube and analyzed with a DU-70 spectrophotometer (Beckman-Coulter) at 260nm wavelength.

Results:
Bonded Polymer tips experience as much as a tenfold decrease in DNA binding compared to conventional tips and a fourfold decrease in bound DNA compared to the best low retention tips. Performance is not compromised after autoclaving (data not shown).

Protein Binding:
The relative binding of protein by several manufacturers’ pipette tips (three conventional tips and three low retention tips) was measured by pipetting 100µl of 10mg/µl bovine serum albumin (New England Biolabs, Beverly MA).

Tips were subsequently washed in 625µl of ddH20 in a spectrophotometer sample tube and analyzed with a DU-70 spectrophotometer (Beckman-Coulter) at 280nm wavelength.

Results:
Bonded Polymer tips exhibit as much as a three-fold decrease in protein binding compared to conventional and low retention tips and performance is not compromised after autoclaving.
